Network Localization Cramér-Rao Bounds for General Measurement Models

چکیده
A closed-form Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) for general multi-modal measurements is derived for D-dimensional network localization (D ∈ {2,3}). Links are asymmetric and the measurements among neighboring nodes are non-reciprocal depending on an arbitrary differentiable function of their position difference, subject to additive Gaussian noise (with variance that may depend on distance). The provided bound incorporates network connectivity and could be applied for a wide range of typical, unimodal ranging measurement methods (e.g., angleof-arrival or time-of-arrival or signal strength with directional antennas) or multi-modal methods (e.g., simultaneous use of unimodal ranging measurements). It was interesting to see that for specific network connectivity, MSE performance of various different ranging measurement methods coincide, while performance of network localization algorithms is clearly sensitive on network connectivity.

Cramér-Rao bounds for the localization of anisotropic sources
In the most general case, source localization has to take into account the radiation pattern of the sources of interest. This is particularly important when the sensors surround the sources, and the sources are anisotropic, as is the case in several applications (EEG, speech, musical instruments, etc.). Cramér-Rao bounds for the joint estimation of the position of a source and its radiation pat...
متن کاملCramér-Rao-Type Bounds for Localization
1 The localization problem is fundamentally important for sensor networks. This paper studies the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRB) for two kinds of localization based on noisy range measurements. The first is Anchored Localization in which the estimated positions of at least 3 nodes are known in global coordinates. We show some basic invariances of the CRB in this case and derive lower and upper bo...
متن کاملCramér-Rao bounds for synchronization of rotations
Synchronization of rotations is the problem of estimating a set of rotations Ri ∈ SO(n), i = 1 . . . N based on noisy measurements of relative rotations RiR > j . This fundamental problem has found many recent applications, most importantly in structural biology. We provide a framework to study synchronization as estimation on Riemannian manifolds for arbitrary n under a large family of noise m...

متن کاملOn Intrinsic Cramér-Rao Bounds for Riemannian Submanifolds and Quotient Manifolds
We study Cramér-Rao bounds (CRB’s) for estimation problems on Riemannian manifolds. In (S.T. Smith, Covariance, subspace, and intrinsic Cramér-Rao bounds, IEEE TSP, 53(5):1610–1630, 2005), the author gives intrinsic CRB’s in the form of matrix inequalities relating the covariance of estimators and the Fisher information of estimation problems. We focus on estimation problems whose parameter spa...
